Brian Saur rec, it’s The Big Fix starring Richard Dreyfusss:
New Westside Gunn mixtape is good. THIS SONG is good.
I was having some flashback-type memories listening to this The Orb tribute mix by Fingerman.
Maybe these are deeply funny to other AI and we’re just not on the same wavelength yet.

Capitalism is a death cult, Rod Serling knew…
Something definitely happened to this guy.
I like the naked frolickers in the Voynich Manuscript.

This movie made me feel drunk. Something about the Eastman color, the music, the strange angles and framing, and of course the subject matter. As recent history has shown us, Blackmail can be a thing that empowers both the blackmailer AND the target of the blackmail. This movie shows a whole network of systemic blackmail that I think is very realistic.
I love this animated short from Elise Augarten, shared by Aeon Video on YouTube. I can smell the chlorine…
There’s some real gems in THIS three hour funk/disco/house mix.
Currently enjoying the hell out of Mona Awad’s Bunny.

As someone with a deep fear of spiders, this dude’s delusions hit close to home…
NFTs seem like a wonderful new scam. The idea that a work of digital art could be both freely available and an investment opportunity at the same time induces a pleasant cognitive dissonance. I was thinking about releasing shares of Reverse Birth as an NFT, but I think it’s better if it’s something pointless and idiotic like a meme of Elon Musk eating cat shit or something. THIS is a good article:
Some nice electro courtesy of Helena Hauff:
I’m not sure why I’m stuck on this Chet Atkins record.

Back on the scuzzy streets of Los Angeles this week with another sci-fi flick, this one about an alien who has to ‘borrow’ human bodies to get around in. Don’t worry tho, Rae Dawn Chong is on the case!
Here’s two tracks off a killer new LP:
Green Dutch still doing good beats.
I enjoyed THIS MIX from Nesta.

If nautical nonsense be something you wish, check out Her Man from 1930. Whoa, hookers and drunks and murderous pimps, what a crew and what a milieu!
Coincidence or kismet? One of my favorite mixes of the week is from a DJ named Nautic.
Keep yer fuckin’ trap shut! (always good advice)
Dub mixes of disco and house tracks from Chrissy…

Love a good scummy 80s Los Angeles sci-fi flick…
A lot has been written about the concentration of wealth over the past 30-40 years, but THIS article by Philip S. Gorski makes a good point about the concentration of social capital too.
I knew about the CIA’s promotion of abstract art and musical comedies in theater during the cold war, but I hadn’t heard about their influence on literature through the Iowa Writers Workshop. Is this why the literary fiction genre conforms to such narrow parameters?
Here’s a fun house mix from Seven Davis Jr.
And here’s a cool mix that also happens to be a FREE DOWNLOAD from Superbreak.

Sal Mineo movie on YouTube…
I caught The Living End by Gregg Araki the other day, it has some killer music in it.
And some more chill music to work to…
And in aspirational reading, here is the Field Guide to Edible Mushrooms of Pennsylvania.

I caught ‘The Bat’ with Vincent Price on TCM and read that it was a remake of ‘The Bat Whispers’ —there’s also an earlier silent version. This one has some really cool miniatures and shadowplay. Good flick!
THIS ARTICLE resonates with some stuff in Reverse Birth. It’s funny how the assumption is that literature could only be predictive in a general sense or in aggregate. I think that if they had continued, they would’ve found that they could make concrete predictions based on a much narrower set of variables. So maybe specific genres, sub-genres, platforms, or even authors could offer more accurate predictions. And now that self-publishing is available as an outlet, which indie books are being ignored or attacked with bad reviews. I think a lot of artists are in conversation with the future, and are actively shaping it whether they’re aware of it or not…
I just read the Sun Ra article in the New Yorker. I always liked Sun Ra, and I think Space is the Place is a great movie, but I’d never heard of this album. It’s fantastic! The YT algorithm fed me the one beneath it.
It might be fifteen years old, but it still sounds urgent (and funky). Nice Paul Du Lac mix!

Hedy Lamarr, the inventor who developed frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology with electronic music composer Antheil (still used in bluetooth and wi-fi), was also a hell of an actor! This week’s movie is “The Strange Woman” —is she strange? Sure, but Lamar makes the character real enough that you kinda want to root for her. Aside from sexually trolling her stepson, what did she do that was so bad really? I love the marauding gangs of lumberjacks in this too. Is that real? It almost makes me want to pick up a history book.
I was looking for Lizzie Borden movies on Archive.org and I stumbled on Kick It Over magazine from the 80s. I really like the article in #18 about the relationship between Anarchism, Radical Feminism, and Marxism. This is some good shit!
Taking a little break from the house and techno this week…
And yes even some classical has crept into the mix:
Juman Malouf book trailer with some Moonrise Kingdom vibes.
Here’s something pretty rare: an intelligent, non-hypified conversation about the UFO (UAP) phenomenon.

You can keep your Ansel Elgort and your Ryan Gosling, I’ll take Mickey Rooney explicitly working out his inferiority complex behind the wheel in Drive a Crooked Road. I like to think of it as the last Andy Hardy movie, Hate finds Andy Hardy.
THIS MIX from Super Flu sounds like a bunch of new wave tunes I’ve never heard before…
Also with those new wave vibes, it’s Trajano for Pager Records.

Act of Violence (1948) is a great little thriller. I’ve been on a Van Heflin kick lately, and this one has Robert Ryan and Janet Leigh too. Who’s the good guy? Who’s the bad guy? Who knows?
Just found out about Ground (the DJ/Producer not the thing under our feet). I like the new album Ozunu a lot, but there’s something special about this track:
Just added Universal Rhythms to the music links on my home page. It’s a nice internet radio, I’ve heard some good house on there and some super mellow jazz.
One of the Universal Rhythms DJs is Lea Lisa, who is also a producer. She has a new single out with 2 Glen Underground remixes on the b-side. I like these two mixes she’s got up on Soundcloud:
Never saw a Karel Zeman movie before. The pace is a bit sluggish, but man does this movie look beautiful! The underwater sequences are especially stunning. I can’t wait to see his Baron Munchausen now.
Disco is the sound of PRIDE. Here’s a fun mix from Miss Chief Karen.
Here’s a deep house mix from Ian Pooley. This one’s great, and it’s a FREE download.
Techno is good for depressives. Case in point? Polygonia.
Oh yeah, and there’s glowing lights in the ocean. Probably swamp gas.
